β Trivia Question
What year did Fairmont incorporate as a city?
Answer at the bottom.

π°οΈ A Stroll Through Our Hometown
Before Fairmont had its name, the land here was deep forest and farm. In 1817, Boaz Flemingβs sons cleared forty acres for a new settlement called Middletown. By 1843, it became Fairmont β a nod to our βfair mount,β overlooking the rivers where the Tygart Valley meets the West Fork and forms the Monongahela.

Marion County was created in 1842, named for Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion (βThe Swamp Foxβ). Coal, glassmaking, and the B&O Railroad helped us grow β but itβs always been our people who give this place its pulse.
